Direct Cremation, sometimes referred to as a 'Pure Cremation' is being considered by both those who are trying to control
costs, and with people who do not want the body present at a service.
A direct cremation is the simplest and cheapest alternative to a traditional funeral; There are no decisions to make regarding funeral options, and no mourners attend the cremation.
If you have decided against a full funeral service, you can still use your friendly, local, family owned and run funeral director, and get the same personable, high quality care you would expect.
There are several large, online based companies, who are well known due to their extensive daytime television advertising, who offer a slightly similar service, but at a very impersonal and almost industrial level, without specifically trained staff, and who do not operate from a dedicated funeral home. We are different. With us, for a small additional fee, you still have an opportunity to say your last goodbyes in person, or even have a small service in our chapel of rest if this is what you desire. This service is not provided by the larger direct cremation only companies. With us, you can still keep costs low, while having an opportunity to say goodbye in your own way, and have this done locally and in a respectful and empathetic way. You can be rest-assured that with Finch & Sons, your loved one is always being treated with the utmost care and dignity by our trained, compassionate staff, and will rest with us at our funeral home until the day of the cremation. There is also the option, for £100, for use of our chapel of rest for viewing of the deceased or to have a small service.
What makes us different?
At Finch & Sons, you have a choice to do extra, while still having a Direct Cremation.
This sets us aside from 'online' or 'direct cremation only services' which offer a 'similar', but far less personal service. This gives you the opportunity, and peace of mind, to be able to choose a Direct Cremation while still using your friendly, local, family owned and run funeral director who can offer you a more personal service.

Chapel of rest visits/ including dressing and preparation £100
This is not limited to just one visit, it can be multiple visits within working hours of operation.
Small service in our chapel (Up to Maximum 10 people) £100
This gives families an opportunity to say a personal goodbye without holding a full funeral service.
Please bear in mind our chapel is limited to 10 mourners to attend, this is simply due to size restraints of our chapel.
This can be held with the deceased in the coffin (opened or closed), or with the ashes once received after the cremation.
Wooden ashes casket £65
Cremated remains are returned to us in a strong cardboard box from the crematorium.
You are free to decide what they are put in afterwards, and we can even help you to transfer them.
Out of hours collection of deceased £175
If you wish to specify a particular crematorium for the direct cremation to take place at, we will charge this at cost.

If your loved one has died in the community or a nursing home and you need our immediate assistance, please call us on 01908 367777 where you can talk directly to an experienced member of our staff. *Please note that in order to keep costs low, there is a £175 fee for taking a loved one into our care outside of normal working hours.
Once your loved one is in our care, you can make arrangements in person, over the phone, or via our online application form where you have the choice to pay online.
If your loved one has passed away in hospital you can start making arrangements straight away in person, over the phone or via our online application form where you have the choice to pay online.
